The best option is going to depend on the type of acne scars you have -- dermatologists have several classifications for acne scars: boxcar, rolling, and icepick. When most people think of ';severe'; acne scars, they think of icepick scars (the deep, crater-like ones). If you only have these isolated to your checks, then you might want to consider a permanent/long-term injection filler like Restylane. This helps to fill-in the space under the scar and rebuild the collagen underneath the skin.

People with dark skin have a greater tendency to develop keloid scarring after laser and chemical peels, so these would probably not be a good option for you. Also, darker skin does not respond as well to laser treatments (due to the greater pigmentation present in the skin).

Don't waste money on over-the-counter treatments for scars. They aren't going to do much for acne scarring, unfortunately. Injection fillers and microdermabrasion are probably your best options. (Microdermabrasion kits can also be performed at home but take a LONG time to show results -- and are only good for shallower acne scars, not deep, ice-pick scars.) Good luck!
Hey K-S20,

I used to have acne really bad and know how you feel. One day I was searching for acne cures and crap I found this blog http://www.AcneCuresForLife.blogspot.com haha( I bookmarked it lol )

Anyway I got the acne free product deal he recommends and my acne literally disappeared. It was crazy. The product i bought had a money back guarantee which is kinda cool too. I think it's only like $25 or something it also has a book that talks about acne scarring too

Anyway, I hope that helps!

In common parlance, acne occurs when the pores of the skin are blocked by natural oil produced by our bodies and dirt. This mostly occurs during the onset of puberty, as the hormones are developing and also occurs regularly in pregnant women.

There are various acne products available in the market. People are taking antibiotics as an acne treatment much more today than in the past. However what happens is that your body becomes resistant to them, thus eliminating antibiotics as the best acne treatment.

Assuming that prevention is no longer an option, some popular techniques to treat acne scar still exist. Here are three of the more popular methods that you could decide to use.

1. Intake of Vitamin A, C, and E. Vitamin E is a natural antioxidant that would help the body get rid of unwanted free radicals. Free radicals are foreign particles that result from exposure to air pollution, peroxides and radiation. A better alternative is alpha-tocopheral which is a potent form of Vitamin E. Vitamins A and C, on the other hand, help regenerate skin cells. These combines would allow your acne scars to heal faster. These vitamins can be derived from their natural sources, or from widely-available supplements.

2. Intake of collagen supplements. Collagen supplements stimulate the body's production of collagen. Collagen is an insoluble fibrous protein that expedites the repair of dead tissues and skin cells. As with the vitamins enumerated above, collagen would also help your acne scars heal at a faster rate. Collagen supplements come in ointments, or through laser technology using soft, red light.

3. Good skin care. Acne scars can heal naturally, minus other intervening conditions like diabetes or some form of skin disease. Healing time is estimated at 6 to 12 months. The important thing to remember as you wait for your acne scars to heal is that you shouldn't do anything that would aggravate the situation. Proper skin care can help your acne scars heal properly, and perhaps even faster.
